Dick Cheney may not have a “Darth Vader For President” bumper sticker on his truck, but he does have something pretty close.
The Wall Street Journal recently accompanied Cheney to his granddaughter’s high school rodeo in Casper, Wyoming. When a reporter asked the former vice president whether his unpopularity after leaving office bothered him, Cheney responded by showing off a trailer-hitch cover on his Ford F-350 Super Duty truck featuring the “Star Wars” villain.
“Darth Vader,” Cheney said with a smile, according to the Journal. “I’m rather proud of that.”
Critics on the left were the first to link Cheney to the “Star Wars” villain, but the former vice president eventually came around to the label and even dressed up as the Sith lord a few times.
“Most of you knew me long before anyone called me Darth Vader,” Cheney said in a 2007 speech at the Washington Institute. “I’ve been asked if that nickname bothers me, and the answer is, no. After all, Darth Vader is one of the nicer things I’ve been called recently.”

Does Cheney have a logical reason for owning a Ford F-350 Super Duty truck? That’s a big truck to take on grocery store runs. I’m thinking pulling cattle trailers, or a horse trailer with all the horses at that rodeo, or maybe pallet loads of concrete mix. It’s just that somehow I don’t see Cheney engaging in any of those activities.
And a mechanical wheeze…
Dark is taking the same kind of pride in an insult as when Boner had to set a reporter straight on what his name was. “It’s Boner. Boner.”
He went on to say, “Yes, I’m proud that my moniker is that of a genocidal mass murderer.”
