Democratic members of Congress shot down White House budget chief Mick Mulvaney’s proposal on Friday to fund Obamacare subsidies to insurers in exchange for funding to build President Donald Trump’s proposed border wall.

“We’d offer them $1 of CSR payments for $1 of wall payments. Right now that’s the offer that we’ve given to our Democratic colleagues,” Mulvaney said at a Bloomberg Live event on Friday as quoted by the Hill, referring to cost-sharing reduction payments.

A spokesman for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) in a statement Friday called the proposal a “gambit to hold hostage health care for millions of Americans” and “a complete non-starter.”

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) on Friday called Trump’s proposed wall “a stupid use of money” and pledged to block “any funding for it.”

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) tweeted that he would only vote to fund Trump’s “stupid” proposed wall “if Russia pays for it.”

Excellent! I like this guy. Kamela Harris too. As much as it is used, the adjective “stupid” is still so underused to describe Trump proposals and what passes for his “doctrines.”

(Edit) I laugh every time I hear a pundit refer to Trump “policy” or “doctrine” while ignoring the elephant in the room… No policy or doctrine that is arrived at in the same considered way that a four-year old decides whether to play with his blocks or his crayons comes close to considered national policy judgment. If anything, the four-year old deliberates and more seriously considers his options than does Trump.

(And thanks to those who corrected me on Sen. Harris’ first name)

Keep this up, Dems. There is NO WAY we should bail out any of the ridiculous Trump proposals by falling for their phony attempts at “compromise.”

  3. Ted Lieu is a congressman, not a senator!

  4. Ted Lieu is right and Russia must pay for it. But pay cash in advance, there will be no more of this “oh believe me they will pay, you will see” crap!

  5. Ted Lieu and Adam Schiff are the future of the Democratic party. The adults in D.C.
