Two Democratic senators on Monday invited Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to address the Senate Democratic caucus in a private meeting.
Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) wrote in a letter to Netanyahu that House Speaker John Boehner’s (R-OH) invitation “threatens to undermine the important bipartisan approach toward Israel,” according to Bloomberg News.
“It sacrifices deep and well-established cooperation on Israel for short-term partisan points — something that should never be done with Israeli security and which we feel could have lasting repercussions,” the senators wrote.
Since Boehner invited Netanyahu to address a joint meeting of Congress without consulting the White House, numerous House and Senate Democrats have threatened to boycott the speech or announced that they will not attend.
