Sen. Tammy Baldin (D-WI) announced in a floor speech Tuesday that she’s opposed to military intervention in Syria.

The freshman Democrat began her remarks by calling the use of chemical weapons by the Assad regime “morally reprehensible and a serious violation of longstanding international law,” while asserting that such actions “require a global response.” She also praised President Barack Obama for seeking congressional approval before signaling her opposition to the use of military force in Syria.

“But I strongly believe that our response to this situation must not be a unilateral military action,” Baldwin said. “This is not America’s responsibility alone and it is not in our interest to set the precedent that it is our responsibility alone. Syria violated international laws and should be held accountable by the international community. America must not act alone.”
