There are some who believe the office of the presidency has no room for tomfoolery.
And so when President Obama prepared to sit down for an interview with Zach Galifianakis, the White House figured that certain members of the Beltway establishment wouldn’t find it very funny.
“We all joked that we were going to give David Gergen a heart attack,” White House spokesperson Dan Pfeiffer told the New York Times.
Gergen, the former presidential adviser who’s now an ultra-serious Washington pundit, has an almost mythological view of the presidency, suggesting in the past that Obama must simply “seize the mantle of leadership” to avert a crisis.
