“The Daily Show” resurfaced an interview with Donald Trump from a 1999 issue of The New York Times on Thursday’s episode. In it, Trump tells the newspaper just what he thinks about “the poor people making up his base.”

“How smart can they be? They’re morons,” host Trevor Noah said, quoting Trump’s interview.

Noah compared Trump to a comic book villain.

“Incredible. Donald Trump told a newspaper that he thinks poor people, the people now voting for him in droves, are morons,” Noah said. “It’s something a cartoonishly evil comic book villain would say. ‘Poor people are morons! Now get out of the soup kitchen so I can bulldoze it to build a water park for my pet tiger!'”
