Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on Sunday refused to denounce the National Rifle Association ad which called President Obama a “hypocrite” for questioning the idea of putting armed guards in all schools while his own children receive armed Secret Service protection.

“There is a fundamental point of hypocrisy when it comes to gun control” Cruz said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Cruz argued that gun control was important to lower-income Americans who don’t have the same police protection in their communities as wealthy people do.

Rather than denounce the ad, Cruz attacked Obama for pursuing gun control legislation.
