Still riding the wave of his first place finish in Iowa, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) asserted Wednesday that he’s now “the only person in this field who can beat Donald Trump.”
“What Iowa and New Hampshire demonstrate is that the only person in this field who can beat Donald Trump is me. The other candidates are not able to beat Donald Trump,” Cruz said during an appearance on “The Mike Gallagher Show,” according to audio flagged by BuzzFeed.
Cruz beat the real estate magnate in Iowa, but took third in the New Hampshire primary behind Trump and Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R). The freshman senator said the Democratic presidential candidates have no chance of beating Trump, either.
Cruz added that he was “the only candidate who has proven he is able to beat Donald Trump at the polls.”
“If you campaign against Donald saying, ‘Hey, I’m more liberal than you, I’m more into amnesty than you, I’ll be softer on radical Islamic terrorists than you,’ it doesn’t work, as we’ve seen twice in Iowa and New Hampshire,” he said.
“What Iowa and New Hampshire demonstrate is that the only person in this field who can beat Donald Trump is me."
So that’s why you lost to Trump in NH by double digits?
One more reason not to sit through that upcoming debate.
Howeva, ten more days…
So?
There is absolutely nothing that could get me to root for Trump but Ted’s idea comes damn close.
The shorter version of Cruz’s remarks: Vote for me. I’m an even bigger asshole than Trump.
