WASHINGTON — As Donald Trump made his way down Pennsylvania Avenue from the U.S. Capitol to the White House, crowds of his supporters cheered—and jeered at the media.

Trump’s supporters, mixed in with some protesters, lined the sidewalks along the parade route. There was room left to pass through behind those crowds, and people continued to mingle about. Parade-goers also lined steps that were set up a few feet back from the parade route, with some fans perched in trees.

Ahead of the parade, which began about 45 minutes behind schedule, the crowd about one-third down the parade route was fairly subdued, perhaps in part due to the intermittent rain.

When the beginning of the parade was announced the crowd began to cheer. But those along Pennsylvania Avenue quickly quieted down in anticipation as the motorcade crept toward them.

When the motorcade finally reached the crowd, it was met with cheers and chants of “USA.”

The crowd was perhaps at its loudest when what appeared to be members of the media passed by. The crowd broke out in chants of “Media sucks!”

And the parade-goers cheered again when the President and Vice President came through.

After Trump and Mike Pence passed, the crowds quickly dispersed and began to head away from the National Mall.
