First lady Michelle Obama’s brother, Craig Robinson, has been fired as the head basketball coach at Oregon State University, according to a report in Sports Illustrated.

Oregon State fired Robinson on Sunday night, according to the report.

Robinson had a 93-104 record as head coach of the Oregon State Beavers. The team went 16-16 in the last season.

There are three years left on Robinson’s contract and the university is likely to owe him $4 million.

In an interview with ABC News in 2010, Robinson described the first time his sister asked him if he’d like to play basketball against her husband. Robinson also said in that interview that the president would regularly call him after big wins and closely followed Oregon State’s schedule.

In interviews, Robinson rarely discussed politics but he has described his relationship with his sister as close.

“She’s one of my closest, dearest friends,” Robinson said in an interview with The Chicago Tribune.

  1. One of those few cases where politics and race probably did not play a part. A 16-16 record at a big school just doesn’t cut it. Neither does an overall losing record over 6 seasons.

  2. Add to that, coaches are fired all the time. Still, it will be fodder for RWNJs to attack.

  3. This is all because of Benghazi

    (I had to say it)

  4. Oregon State is a tough gig. And it’s even tougher now that the University of Oregon has had so much success in both football and basketball. It’s truly a big-brother/little-brother dynamic in terms of college athletics in that state.

I hope he lands on his feet and gets another chance somewhere else.

  5. This has nothing to do with being ‘Michelle Obama’s Brother’ and more about having several losing seasons. It happens all the time.
