After several problems and delays at polling places on Tuesday, Connecticut Democrats planned to file a complaint to extend voting hours, the Hartford Courant newspaper reported.

“Because of delays and other problems at Hartford polling locations, we are filing a complaint in Hartford Superior Court asking that voting hours be extended to accommodate voters who were unable to vote or were discouraged from voting this morning,” a spokesperson for Gov. Dannel Malloy (D) told the Courant.

When polls opened across the state Tuesday morning, election workers discovered they were missing voter lists, the newspaper reported. The setback resulted in delays across the state capital’s 26 different polling stations.

The race for governor between Malloy and Republican Tom Foley remained one of the most competitive in the country going into Election Day.

The problems at polling places contained a touch of deja vu: The Courant noteed that in 2010 a state judge granted Democrats an extension in the city of Bridgeport after stations ran out of ballots, resulting in a slew of voting troubles.

The state’s GOP signaled its concern with Tuesday’s setbacks as well: Republican State Chairman Jerry Labriola told the paper his party was watching closely.

“We have a team of 50 lawyers ready to review things. We won’t stand by for this,” Labriola said.
