Former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is co-chairing a new commission on immigration at the Bipartisan Policy Center with the goal of producing recommendations for Congress as they work on a comprehensive reform bill. Also co-chairing the effort: former Mississippi governor and ex-RNC chair Haley Barbour, former Pennsylvania governor Ed Rendell, and former HUD secretary Henry Cisneros.
President Bush tried and failed to pass a bill with a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants in 2007, a failure that Rice told reporters on Monday was at “the top of the list” of her regrets for his presidency.
