Rep. Barbara Comstock’s (R-VA) office confirmed Friday that the congresswoman would vote against the bill to repeal and replace Obamacare, a blow to House leaders scrambling to whip enough votes to pass the bill.
Comstock’s vote was first reported by the Washington Post’s Jenna Portnoy, and Comstock’s office confirmed to TPM that the congresswoman would not back the American Health Care Act.
Comstock is considered a bellwether since she represents a district in northern Virginia carried by Hillary Clinton in the 2016 race.
The news came just as House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) was headed to the White House to update President Donald Trump on the status of the legislation.
Trump gave the House an ultimatum to vote on the bill Friday, but it’s not clear that enough Republicans support the legislation in its current form to secure its passage.
