Stephen Colbert was “revved up” as he celebrated the U.S. conducting airstrikes in Syria, during his show on Tuesday. However, as he applauded the move against ISIL, he pondered who could possibly lead the region since President Bashar al-Assad couldn’t.

“Well, there’s got to be somebody who can hold that region together,” Colbert said. “Anybody seen Saddam lately? Oh right. Oh right, right, right, right. With the spider hole and the beard and the ‘pop.’ Well, live and learn. That one’s on us.”

Undeterred, Colbert emphasized how monumental the U.S. airstrikes in Syria were.

“The point is Syria is a country we have never bombed before, which means I get to put a whole new hole in my frequent MidEast bombing card.”

After punching a new hole in his card, Colbert rejoiced.

“All we need to do is bomb Oman, and I get a free falafel.”
