A towering wildfire in Colorado has destroyed and unknown number of homes, forced 32,000 people to evacuate and partially closed the grounds of the U.S. Air Force Academy, the AP reports:

Interstate 25, which runs through Colorado Springs, was briefly closed to southbound traffic Tuesday. All told, officials said, evacuation orders affected as many as 32,000 residents. Fire information officer Rob Dyerberg said Wednesday the fire grew by more than 12 ½ square miles late Tuesday to 24 square miles.
