CNN’s Mark Preston and John King report that GOP presidential candidate Herman Cain is soon to receive official protection from the Secret Service – the first Republican candidate to do so.
The pair say “it is not yet clear” why Cain is being afforded this service right now. However, they note it’s not unprecedented for a candidate to receive protection even before the primaries. Then-Senator Barack Obama was afforded the same service in May 2007 – even earlier in the cycle.
