Larry Klayman might not be an all-around household name, but it’s a good bet he has sued someone who is. U.S. District Court Judge Richard Leon on Monday granted Klayman’s request for an injunction blocking the collection of phone data for Klayman and co-plaintiff Charles Strange. The judge stayed the action pending an expected government appeal, but the ruling in his favor in federal court puts Klayman back in the headlines with his legal activism. Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy is having a hard time getting the lawyer he wants to back him up in a Nevada court.

According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Larry Klayman, a D.C.-based conservative attorney and conspiracy theorist, was refused permission from the judge in the case (for a second time) to join Bundy’s legal defense on Tuesday.

The Review-Journal writes that Nevada federal judge Gloria Navarro blocked Klayman from job until he can show her that the “’ethical disciplinary’ proceedings against him in Washington, D.C., have been resolved in his favor.” The newspaper cited documents that showed the Washington bar was looking into Klayman for allegedly having “conflicts of interest “in cases “involving Judicial Watch.”

Klayman, who has been outspoken about his belief that President Obama is Muslim, is known in conservative circles for his ambitious litigation appetite, having brought numerous suits against the Clinton in the 1990s and launching D.C.-based groups Freedom Watch and Judicial Watch.
