Former President Bill Clinton called Mitt Romney’s controversial ad in Ohio that implies Chrysler is shifting Jeep production to China a “load of bull” during an event in Youngstown, Ohio Monday.

Clinton said that President Obama relayed to him Monday morning that this attack stung in particular because Obama’s first car was a Jeep.

Clinton also relayed Obama’s words on the attack: “The first new car I ever owned I was 30-years old, and it was a Jeep. I would never move Jeep to China.”

Romney’s ad claims that after the auto bailout, Chrysler was considering producing Jeeps in China. But as Clinton pointed out in Ohio, those plans are in addition to their Ohio production and they are not shifting jobs overseas. The Obama campaign released an ad Monday pushing back on the Jeep ad.
