Clay Aiken fans may get another chance to vote for the “American Idol” star this year, although they won’t be able to do so by calling a toll-free number.

Television station WRAL reported Thursday that Aiken is preparing a run for the Democratic nomination in North Carolina’s Second Congressional District, which is currently represented by Rep. Renee Elmers (R-NC).

Aiken’s plans have apparently left local Democrats miffed.

The Hill reported that the party would have preferred to have avoided a primary in an already challenging district.

The former runner-up on America’s best-known singing competition will enter a Democratic field that already includes two other candidates.
