New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Tuesday branded Republican presidential rival Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) “the boy in the bubble” for giving what he called a “scripted” speech after coming in third place at the Iowa caucuses, The Washington Post reported.

Christie, who finished at a distant 10th place, told reporters in New Hampshire that Rubio’s campaign was “constantly scripted.”

Christie said Rubio should “man up” and answer questions about his changing opinions on immigration. Christie said he was eager to see how the Florida senator would handle additional scrutiny “under the microscope,” the Post reported.

“Maybe he’ll do more than 40 minutes on a little stage telling everybody his canned speech that he’s memorized,” Christie said, as quoted by the Post. “This isn’t a student council election, everybody. This is an election for president of the United States. Let’s get the boy in the bubble out of the bubble and let’s see him play for the next week in New Hampshire. I’m ready to play, and I hope he is.”

Rubio predicted he’d be the Republican presidential nominee in his pseudo-victory speech.
