New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie criticized Texas Sen. Ted Cruz for stereotyping New York values and disparaging the people of Manhattan.
In an interview with Time, Christie classified Cruz’s comment as “just asinine.”
“I think it was a very, very ill-advised thing for Ted to say,” Christie said according to the magazine. “You want to be President of the United States, you have to unite this country. And for him to somehow be implying that certain values are more appropriate, more American, depending upon what region of the country you’re from, is to me just asinine.”
In the same interview, Christie blasted Cruz’s attempts to appear as an outsider and rogue senator in the race by saying that he was “the most inside guy in this race” and encouraging him to give back all the money Cruz has raised from New York’s wealthy hedge fund managers if he is so opposed to so-called New York values.
“Ted Cruz has no problem with New York values when he’s collecting fundraising from New York hedge funds,” Christie said according to the Times story.
While Christie and Cruz may appear to be pursuing different voters in the 2016 primary race, both men are fighting hard to perform well in New Hampshire, which the governor has built his 2016 campaign around.
Can’t stand Christie, but this was a well-landed series of punches.
The catch, of course, is that the G.O.P. base is completely immune to hypocrisy.
Of course Christie sticks up for New York, it has the best pizza in the country!
Oh for fuck’s sake, Cruz went to Princeton and married a woman who is a Goldman exec. He is “New York” values through and through.
Can we get Christie and Cruz in a Jell-O tub wrestling match? The winner has to eat the Jell-O the loser works the cones on the GW bridge for the whole month of February.
