Chris Murphy handily won the endorsement of Democrats at the state party convention Saturday afternoon, but former Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz secured enough votes to force an August primary

Murphy, 39, currently a three-term congressman from Connecticut’s 5th District, received 1,378 votes, or 76 percent. Bysiewicz got 444, or 24 percent. The threshold for an automatic primary is 15 percent.
