Chris McDaniel’s campaign manager, state Sen. Melanie Sojourner (R-MS), has been fined $500 and warned that her salary as a state lawmaker could be cut over Sojourner’s failure to file a campaign finance report that had been due on Jan. 31.

Sojourner was notified of the fine and the warning by a letter from the Department of Finance and Administration. The letter said “we will withhold any payments to you for salary or other remunerations until which time you have filed all required delinquent reports…”

On May 23, the Mississippi Secretary of States’s office sent Sojourner a letter about the delayed report. That letter followed efforts to contact Sojourner by phone and mail. The letter said that a $500 civil penalty had been directed at Sojourner. With the letter was a form that Sojourner could have filled out to request a waiver for the report if there had been “an unforeseeable mitigating circumstance.” As of Monday, the secretary of State’s office said it had not received a waiver request from Sojourner.
