Former Navy SEAL Chris Heben’s private security company on Thursday stood by its founder who has been accused of lying to police in Ohio about being shot by three black men.

Television station WEWS reported that the company, SEAL Team Consulting, released a statement in response to the criminal charges that were brought against Heben in Ohio.

Here’s the company’s statement, via WEWS:

Police chose to challenge Chris Heben’s account of the assault and the rather minor charges emanated from their review of the case. We stand by Chris Heben. We are convinced that an objective review in court will clear up any discrepancies and rule favorably for Chris Heben.

SEAL Team Consulting, among other things, advertises “protective security for individuals, groups and corporations” as well as threat assessments for law enforcement training. Its website boasts that the company has “over 15 years experience in over 200 real world combat missions spanning some of the most volatile locations on the Earth.” It also provides motivation, fitness, and nutrition consulting.

According to WEWS, the company said it will not discuss the charges and neither will Heben, who is scheduled to appear in Akron Municipal Court on Thursday. Heben has been charged with misdemeanor counts of falsification and obstructing official business after police said they had “overwhelming evidence” that he lied about the events leading up to him being shot in the stomach in March.
