The conservative editorial page of the Wall Street Journal went out of its way on Monday to praise President Obama and slam New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) for the latter’s recent remarks about vaccinations.

Christie played defense all day Monday after he said that “parents need to have some measure of choice” in vaccinating their children,” during what the Journal called a “meandering meditation on parental rights.”

“On this score President Obama has it all over Chris Christie,” the editorial said.

The paper said Christie has a history of giving “comfort to those who spread vaccine misinformation or suggest vaccine requirements are an abuse of government power.” It referenced Christie’s support of an anti-vaccination group during his run for governor in 2009.

The editorial ended by saying that politicians’ lack of common sense on issues like vaccines is “the real public health problem” in America.
