Reuters reports that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has said that Iran, Russia, and China have begun helping his country construct unmanned drone aircraft. Speaking to military officers on Wednesday, Chavez said, “Of course we’re doing it, and we have the right to. We are a free and independent country.”

Chavez claims that the drones will be used for exclusively defensive purposes, and that the construction comes as a part of a larger military alliance, which includes the construction of weapons and munitions factories. The president also said the Venezuela has produced three drones, each of which can fly for up to 90 minutes.
