Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), the chair of the House Oversight Committee, on Monday maintained that he is not done investigating Hillary Clinton even though she lost the presidential election, as he stated just after the election.

“This was never a political targeting from the beginning. Just because there’s a political election doesn’t mean it goes away. So of course I’m going to continue to pursue that,” Chaffetz told reporters, according to Buzzfeed News. “It’s potentially one of the largest breaches of security in the history of the State Department. It cannot and should never be repeated again. How was it that so much information was able to migrate out the door? These are still open questions that we need to finish up so they don’t happen again.”

He said that the committee has several top priorities and that investigating Clinton and her email use is one of them.

Chaffetz also said he would hold Trump accountable.

“My job in this role is not to protect or be a cheerleader for the president. It’s just not. I’m not here to defend him at every turn,” he said, according to Buzzfeed News.

But Chaffetz added that he is constrained by the law when it comes to investigating Trump’s potential conflicts of interest.

“My concern is that there is compliance with the law. I will tell you the president is exempt from a lot of these. I didn’t write these laws but that’s the reality of it,” he said, according to NBC News.

He added that “maybe some of that should be tightened up but it’s not something I dove into,” per NBC.

  2. Chaffetz: Putin is giving me more ideas about how to Indict Hillary. It helps when someone outside is listening to every conversation of our enemy.

  3. That’s why Chaffetz is still pursuing — more deflection: Faux News can keep avoiding reporting on graft and corruption in the Orange Menace Admin by keeping HRC’s emails alive and well.

  4. It’s not as if “faux news” will be reporting the conflicts anyway, or the Trump base cares.

    No excuses are really needed.
