LAS VEGAS — Samsung unveiled a host of new products at the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show on Monday, including three new 3D TV sets that allow users to interact with them using gestures, voice control and facial recognition technology.

The three models include the 55-inch Samsung Super OLED TV, the Samsung UNES8000 Smart LED TV and the Samsung PNE8000 Plasma Smart TV. All of them feature Samsung’s new “Smart Interaction” technology, which enables the remote-less controls.

As Samsung explained the feature in a press release:

“Thanks to a built-in HD camera and dual-microphones, consumers may simply say “Hi TV” to turn on voice control, speak “Web Browser” to get online, and browse and select results or increase the volume by just pointing a hand.”

Samsung said that the TVs would be available in the U.S. in Spring 2012. Pricing wasn’t immediately available.

But the news is especially intriguing given that Samsung might have just beat its rival and conspicuous CES absentee Apple to the punch. Apple is reportedly working on its own much-hyped voice-controlled TV set using the same technology behind its “Siri” digital voice assistant for the iPhone.
