Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Thursday announced the launch of a new institute dedicated to “leading the transition to a sustainable energy future.”
The Wilton E. Scott Institute for Energy Innovation, named in honor of alumni Sherman Scott and his wife Joyce Bowie Scott, whose donation is funding the center, will be run by Granger Morgan, head of the university’s department of Engineering and Public Policy.
In a new video promoting the institute, Morgan said “first and foremost of course we’ll do research, and we’ll take our research problems from the real world…and we will move the results back out into the real world. In addition, we will educate a large number of students who can go out into the world and have big impact on the way in which we develop and use energy resources.”
