Covered California, the state’s health insurance marketplace, will announce Thursday whether it will comply with the White House’s ‘fix’ for people whose health insurance policies have been canceled.
The decision will be announced at 4 p.m. PT after a board meeting.
As TPM previously reported, California is the only state where the marketplace has required carriers to cancel their existing non-Obamacare compliant plans by Dec. 31, 2013, in order to sell there. The state insurance commissioner has called on the marketplace to release insurers from that requirement and comply with the White House’s policy, which gives states and insurers the option of extending existing policies for up to one additional year.
