Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown says he’s not going to lose just because his opponent, Ohio state treasurer Josh Mandel, has a spending advantage, but said he believes Mandel’s moneyed backers are the only reason his race is even close.

“First, I’m not going to lose,” Brown said on MSNBC Wednesday morning. “But this is an example where it’s entirely money that’s kept this race at all even close. It’s not that-that close now. But it’s all because of outside money.”

Outside groups have already spent $8.3 million against Brown, according to MSNBC’s Luke Russert. Brown said he believes the money is coming from oil companies and Wall Street, but he can’t know for sure.
