Britain’s Parliament Supports Same-Sex Marriage In Initial Vote

Britian’s parliament voted in favor of legalizing same-sex marriage by a wide margin Tuesday, the first in several rounds of voting on proposed legislation that would legalize gay marriage in 2014, Reuters reports

There were 400 votes in favor to 175 votes opposed, splitting the conservative party of British Prime Minister David Cameron.

Cameron called the vote “an important step forward,” according to the BBC.
