Former Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D) on Monday was elected chairman of the board for the Stillwater Mining Company.
In a statement put out by the company, which is based in Billings, Mont., Schweitzer said that he’s “honored to have the privilege of working with this new Board of Directors, which includes individuals with long experience and diverse perspectives on the mining industry.”
Schweitzer has been pegged as the likely Democratic nominee in Montana’s 2014 U.S. Senate race to replace the retiring Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT). The popular ex-governor acknowledged last month that he isn’t ruling out a bid in the open Senate contest.
