The House Freedom Caucus welcomed its newest member Thursday afternoon: former House Speaker John Boehner’s replacement, Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH)

According to Politico, the Freedom Caucus voted to invite Davidson to join Thurday.

It’s strange turn of events considering the Freedom Caucus had been the thorn in Boehner’s side that eventually forced the then-speaker to give up his gavel. Politico noted it was the Freedom Caucus’ leader Jim Jordan, (R-OH) who had encouraged Davidson to run for Congress in the first place.

Davidson was elected to the House Tuesday and was sworn in to Congress officially on Thursday.
