House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said he will do his best to avoid a government shutdown as Congress begins to put together a continuing resolution to fund the government, during an interview that aired on NBC’s “Meet the Press” Sunday.

Boehner said he will “absolutely” do his best to keep the government open.

We, the House next week will act to extend the continuing resolution through the end of the fiscal year, September 30th. The president this morning agreed that we should not have any talk of a government shutdown. So I’m hopeful that the House and Senate will be able to work through this.
