A bizarre new video of Rob Ford surfaced on Thursday showing the embattled Toronto mayor, who admitted to smoking crack-cocaine earlier this week, threatening to kill an unidentified person in a fit of rage.
The video, purchased by the the Toronto Star, lacks substantial context but shows Ford pacing back and forth in a living room and talking to a person off camera.
“I’m gonna kill that fucking guy. I’m telling you, it’s first-degree murder,” Ford says. “I’ll rip his fucking throat out. I’ll poke his eyes out. . . . I’ll make sure that motherfucker’s dead.”
A source “close to the mayor” told the Toronto Sun that the video “looks a lot worse than it really is” since “he sometimes goes off on tangents,” claiming that a few minutes later Ford calmed down.
Ford responded to the video at Toronto City Hall on Thursday, telling reporters “obviously, I was extremely, extremely inebriated.”
The mayor refused to resign after admitting he smoked crack-cocaine on Tuesday, expressing regret but maintaining that he had more to do for “the sake of the taxpayers” of Toronto.
“To the residents of Toronto, I know I have let you down and I can’t do anything else but apologize and apologize and I’m so sorry,” he said. “I know, I know I have to regain your trust and your confidence.”
