The Progressive Agenda Committee said Tuesday that they’re cancelling next month’s income inequality presidential summit in Iowa promoted by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio because of a lack of interest.
“It is clear other efforts beyond the previously-planned presidential forum will more effectively advance the cause of fighting income inequality,” the committee said in a statement to the Wall Street Journal on Tuesday afternoon.
The forum, which would have required RSVPs from three candidates on each side, was scheduled for Dec. 6 in Iowa City.
No contracts had been made between the group and the university, according to the Journal, but possible venues had been identified.
De Blasio endorsed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for president in late October after months of silence on the candidate for whom de Blasio once ran a successful Senate campaign.
