The Texas mayor who defended police after they arrested 14-year-old Ahmed Mohamed for bringing a clock to school has joined Republican presidential candidate Carly Fiorina’s leadership team in the state, Breitbart reported Monday.

Irving Mayor Beth Van Duyne is one of 26 Texans signing onto Fiorina’s leadership team, which is chaired by the state’s former comptroller, Susan Combs, according to Breitbart. Fiorina herself was born in Austin, Texas.

Van Duyne told TPM Monday afternoon in a phone interview that Fiorina’s team approached her about the endorsement.

“I’m looking for a strong, professional, business-minded candidate and she fits that profile,” Van Duyne said.

She also praised Fiorina’s “pragmatic” answers in the first two Republican presidential primary debates.

Van Duyne said she hasn’t discussed Mohamed’s arrest with Fiorina or her team, though.
