Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) has been invited to the Vatican on how to create “a moral economy,” he announced Friday morning.
“I was moved by the invitation, which was just made public today,” Sanders said during an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” “I’m a big, big fan of the Pope. Obviously there are areas where we disagree on—women’s rights or gay rights—but he has played an unbelievable role, an unbelievable role of injecting a moral consequence into the economy.”
The Washington Post reported Sanders will head to Rome after his debate against Hillary Clinton on April 14. He is scheduled to speak at the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences.
If you think Sanders is radical, read Pope Francis on poverty, Sanders said.
“He’s trying to inject a sense of morality into how we do economics,” he said.

Already the Bernie side is screaming, “Look who’s qualified to speak at the Vatican,” and “Oh, Hilary isn’t invited,” and my favorite: “Hilary will have to buy her way into an invitation.” I guess that whole "we’ll speak to the issues and not fling mud meme is over and out… And I was so hoping this would not morph into the GOP’s mud wrestling wet t-shirt shout fest. Sigh.
Pope Francis has packed his Vatican with vulture capitalists and in an in-flight interview said that abortion to save the life of a woman is “what the Mafia does” and as regards LGBT people he “supports the Catichism” i.e. gays are “intrinsically disordered.”
Sanders should avoid the Vatican and the Pope like the plagues they are…period.
Soooo…
AIPAC= “evil will not speak to”
Catholic Church = “Good, sure we disagree on a few (re:BIG) things but I’ll talk to them”
Yeah, somehow I think it has more to do with A cynical “Isreal polls badly with liberals Pope Francias polls okay, and I need anything to distract from the disaster that was the NYDN interview and colossal cockup with the WaPo article.”
Who’s “triangulating” now?

Sanders cares about economic issues. He’s talking to the Pope because, as he (correctly) says, Francis holds views even more radical than his own on poverty and inequality. I’ve got absolutely no problem with that - this is how politics should be done, using alliances to create strength. His purist supporters should take note.
