Ben Carson continues his streak as perhaps the worst possible surrogate for Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump.

“Getting into fights with Ryan or anybody else” is just a “complete waste of time,” Carson told Fox News’ Martha MacCallum Wednesday morning.

Carson implied Trump was squandering precious hours calling out John McCain (“I wouldn’t want to be in a foxhole with a lot of these people!”), House Speaker Paul Ryan (“very weak and ineffective leader”), and others who condemned him following the leak of a tape Friday showing Trump making extremely aggressive and predatory comments about women.

“It’s not helpful at all,” Carson continued.

“I don’t think it’s too late at all if he gets on message and talks about the issues that affect the people of America,” Carson told MacCallum, unhelpfully reminding viewers that Trump was picking fights with his own party with just 26 days left to make up a nearly impossible deficit in the polls.

Since an “Access Hollywood” tape leaked Friday showing Donald Trump bragging about being able to kiss and grope women without their consent due to his celebrity status, Carson has only made the situation worse for Trump.

Carson told various journalists on Saturday that the Trump campaign believed there were more such revelations to come before the election. And on Tuesday, he said the real political problem posed by the tape may be that members of the media, including his interviewer, CNN’s Brianna Keilar, were “the problem” for not being more familiar with what he called talk about “sexual conquest.”

Carson endorsed Trump in March, saying on stage that there were “two Donald Trumps”: A measured businessman who “considers things carefully,” and, well, the other one.
