Republican presidential candidate and retired neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson was asked at a campaign event in Ankeny, Iowa on Friday how government can curb gun violence like what happened in Roseburg, Oregon on Thursday.

“Gun control only works for law-abiding citizens,” Carson told reporters. “It doesn’t work for crazies.”

Carson had told radio host Hugh Hewitt on Thursday that more gun control was “not the issue.

“Obviously, there are those who are going to be calling for gun control,” Carson told radio host Hugh Hewitt. “Obviously, that’s not the issue. The issue is the mentality of these people.”
