Armstrong Williams, longtime ally and campaign adviser to Ben Carson, conceded that “there is no pathway” to the nomination for the world-renowned surgeon, Politico reported Wednesday.

Williams said Carson is not “in this cycle to do anybody any favors.”

“It’s not about a pathway to him. There is no pathway,” he said.

Carson said Monday that as long as his campaign had money, he wasn’t dropping out. Williams told Politico that Carson had been offered political positions (like a Florida Senate seat) to leave the race.

Williams said plainly what many Republican strategists have come to realize: Trump is the likely nominee.

“No one has a pathway to the nomination except Donald Trump,” he added. “They’re all in the same boat.”

Ironically, Williams’ frank assessment came the same day as a “Dear Haters” video message from Carson was released.
