On ABC’s This Week Sunday, Senior Obama campaign advisor David Axelrod defended the President’s call to Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke after Rush Limbaugh called her a “slut” and a “prostitute” on his radio show earlier this week. Axelrod said the call was the right thing to do and that Limbaugh’s comments were offensive not only to Fluke but to all women, pointing out that a majority of American women will use contraception at some point. He called Limbaugh’s apology yesterday a “quasi apology.”
Axelrod also pointed out that Limbaugh’s screed against Fluke was based on a the falsehood that the taxpayer would foot the bill for women’s contraception, when in fact it’s included in the insurance company’s basic coverage. That falsehood “needs to be challenged,” Axelrod concluded.
