At a news conference in Boston, Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod said that Mitt Romney governed Massachusetts with the “orientation” of a financial engineer. Appearing with Massachusetts mayors and lawmakers who spoke about Romney’s record there, Axelrod sought to highlight Romney’s record as governor.

Axelrod said Romney approached the governor’s office the same way he approached his tenure at Bain Capital, seeking short-term profit rather than long-term growth. He also hit Romney for raising fees, growing the state’s debt burden and poor economic performance overall.
