There were more than 500 violations spotted by the ATF at the Connecticut gun shop that sold the weapon used by Adam Lanza in the December massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School but the store owner’s license wasn’t revoked until after the shooting, the Journal News reported.

Some of the violations committed at Riverview Gun Sales in East Windsor, Conn. dated all the way back to 2007. Between 2010 and 2011, a senior employee twice sold ammunition to a man he had reason to believe was a felon.

That very employee sold the Bushmaster XM15 rifle to Nancy Lanza in March of 2010. But according to records obtained by the Journal News, there is no reason to believe that any violations were committed in the sale to Lanza. Adam Lanza used the Bushmaster purchased at Riverview Gun Sales to kill 26 people in the Dec. 14 school shooting in Newtown, Conn.
