The New York Times reports that Syrian government forces have ousted rebels from a key Aleppo district, representing a potential turn in the fighting for the country’s largest city. Utilizing jets, helicopters, artillery, and tanks — and at least one remotely controlled drone — the forces of President Bashar al-Assad have wrested control of Salaheddiin, forcing the insurgents into a “tactical withdrawal.”

The fighting comes as officials from some 30 countries, including Russia and China, met in Tehran to discuss potential solutions to the Syrian fighting in a non-UN, non-Arab League forum. Most nations sent ambassadors, but no consensus was reached as to alleviating the crisis.
