Armed Police Begin At New Jersey School District

School officials in Marlboro, N.J. moved ahead Wednesday with their plan to place armed, uniformed police in the town’s schools, in response to the mass shooting at in Newtown, Conn.

“[S]tarting Wednesday, January 2, every Marlboro school will have an armed, uniformed Marlboro Township police officer on the premises on a temporary 90-day basis, while discussions about future security improvements are conducted,” a message on the Marlboro Township public schools’ website reads. “Please note that for many years, as a result of cooperation and collaboration wtih MTPD, Marlboro has had an armed police presence in its schools through the DARE program, and more recently, through school resource officers (SROs) who regularly spend time in each school.”
