The Arizona Senate narrowly defeated a bill to allow more employers to drop contraceptive coverage because of religious objections. The bill was amended to address concerns that women would have to disclose private medical information to their employers in order to get hormonal contraceptive coverage in cases of medical necessity.
The vote Wednesday was 17-13, with eight Republicans voting against the bill. The bill is not dead; one of the Republican “no” votes was a procedural move to allow the bill to be brought up again for a vote.
