Apple executives unveiled a bevvy of new software and hardware updates at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in San Francisco on Monday afternoon, including a new in-house mapping application, simply called “Maps,” that severs Apple’s longstanding dependence on Google to provide the built-in mapping data for the iPhone and iPad.
While most of the announcements had been pre-empted by tech blogs, the company still managed to wow observers with the fine details of the updates, which also included: iOS6, Apple’s latest update to its mobile operating system for the iPad and iPhone, OSX Mountain Lion: Apple’s updated version of its desktop computing operating system, and faster and more powerful Macbook Pro and Macbook Air laptops.
