Attorney General Eric Holder demanded answers from his subordinates the same day that that CBS aired a story alleging that the ATF allowed weapons to “walk” during Operation Fast and Furious, Pete Yost reports for the Associated Press.
“We need answers on this. Not defensive BS. Real answers,” Holder wrote in an email on Feb. 23, according to the AP. Holder’s email came a day after he attended the funeral of ICE Special Agent Jamie Zapata, according to his calendar. He ordered an inspector general investigation five days later.
The information would have been included in the documents that the Justice Department offered to turn over the congressional investigators under an agreement which would have resolved the House Oversight Committee’s subpoena. House Republicans rejected the agreement and are voting today to find the attorney general in contempt of Congress for the first time in history.
